Honest advice

Does yours actually need replacing?

Often, no.

If yours is sound, we will tell you so

An older fuse board is not automatically unsafe. Plenty of them are working exactly as they were designed to, and if yours is one of them there is no good reason to spend money replacing it.

The question worth asking is a different one. What an older board often lacks is the protection a modern consumer unit gives you. That is not the same as being broken, and it is the thing we look at.

So we come and look, we tell you what you have, and we say plainly whether replacing it would make a real difference.

A visit to look and price the job is free. It is a visual inspection only, with no work carried out on the day. If you would rather not wait for a visit, send us a photo of your board on WhatsApp and we will tell you what we think.

What it costs

From £865 including VAT

What can push it above that

You get the price before we start

The size of the board makes the biggest difference to the price. Most homes with 8 to 12 circuits come out between about £1,000 and £1,200. The quickest way to a realistic figure is the fuse board estimate tool. It walks through the things that actually affect the cost and gives you a number at the end, without asking for your contact details first.

All prices include VAT. Or ring 01904 599 109 and ask.

Worth a look

Signs worth getting looked at

This is not a scare list. These are the things that genuinely warrant someone having a look.

Rewireable fuses

A ceramic holder with fuse wire in it. Sound in principle, but it gives you none of the fault protection a modern board does.

No RCD protection

If nothing on the board trips on an earth fault, that is the protection most worth having.

It trips and you cannot tell why

Often a circuit fault rather than the board itself, which is worth finding before you replace anything.

Scorching, cracking or a burning smell

Get this one looked at promptly rather than left.

You are adding load

An EV charger, an extension, a garden office or a hot tub may need capacity and a dedicated circuit that the current board cannot give.

Why us

Why people use us for this

We answer the phone

Most calls are taken by Nathan, who handles our bookings and can usually price a straightforward job there and then.

One electrician, start to finish

The work is done by Matt. You get a text when he is on the way, and if that ever changes for a particular job, you will be told who is coming before they arrive.

We only recommend it if it is worth it for you

We would rather tell you your board is fine and come back when it is not.

Certified properly

Testing, your certificate and Building Control notification are part of the job, not an add-on.

“He fixed our underfloor heating and bathroom light quickly and to a very high standard. He was able to source the required parts on the same day, which meant everything was resolved without unnecessary delays. Professional, reliable and thorough.”

Brie Whelan, Selby. Google review.
On the day

What the day looks like

1

Before we start

We agree the price and a date, and tell you roughly how long the power will be off.

2

While we are there

Most straightforward replacements take a few hours. The power goes off while we work, and we tell you when, so you can plan around the freezer, the router and anything else that matters.

3

Before we leave

Everything is tested, the board is labelled, and we take you through what has changed. You get your certificate, and we handle the Building Control notification.

Where we work

Goole, Howden, Selby, York and the villages between

Most weeks we are in Goole, Howden, Selby, Drax and Swinefleet.

York, Tadcaster, Brough, Pocklington and Market Weighton are well within reach for a board upgrade, since it is planned work rather than a quick call out.

Not sure if we reach you? Ring 01904 599 109 and ask.

Questions

Common questions

Most straightforward replacements are a few hours and finished the same day. If remedial work is needed we will tell you before we start.

No. It goes off while the board is changed and comes back on once testing is done. We tell you roughly when, so you can plan around it.

Not always. It depends what your board has and what capacity is spare. Sometimes a dedicated circuit can be added to the existing board. We look before assuming.

Yes, where the work requires it, and it is included in the price.

Yes. An EICR is usually what they want rather than a new board. We can do that first and quote for anything it finds.

Yes. Remedial work after an EICR is a large part of what we do.

We stop and talk to you. You get the revised price before any extra work happens.

Get in touch

Tell us about your board

Fill this in and we will come back to you the same working day. Tell us roughly what your board looks like and how old the house is, if you know, and we can usually give you a price without visiting.

Quicker still: send us a photo of your board on WhatsApp.

Prefer to talk? Ring 01904 599 109. Most calls are taken by Nathan, who can usually price a straightforward board change over the phone.
